The Risk & Insurance® Power Broker® Awards are an annual selection of the most effective and influential commercial insurance brokers. On February 27th, Risk & Insurance announced that when it comes to the financial services space, Cameron Lock is a true Power Broker. 

Cameron’s work stands out in the financial services space because of his creativity and determination to arrive at the best insurance outcome for his clients. It’s not easy to understand the intricacies of cryptocurrency, DeFi, the blockchain, and the many other potentially game-changing arrivals in financial services. But to continue to be an expert in a sector that’s evolving as rapidly as finance, Cameron has put in many hours of learning.

Last year, Cameron used that rare combination of insurance and fintech expertise to deliver an amazing outcome for a client. The client—a global technology company—uses cryptocurrency and blockchain technology to enable their clients to secure real-time liquidity transactions. However, due to general misconceptions about crypto, the P&C program was becoming increasingly difficult to insure. Cameron advocated for and convinced carriers to write coverage, reclassify the business’s industry sector, and even saved them money along the way. 

Cameron believes that excellent client service and open communication are essential in the insurance industry. He treats each client as if they’re his only one—dedicating extra time and effort to ensuring they understand their coverages and contracts. He sees his role as a consultant and a stakeholder in their risk-management strategy and also prioritizes making their insurance needs seamless and streamlined. 

“When it comes to working with clients in the technology-based sectors, I feel like the old idiom that ‘money is time’ is 100% true,” he says. “These clients are used to working hyper-efficiently on tight timelines so I make sure they're getting exactly what they need as quickly as possible.”

Cameron is a staunch advocate, whether in dealing with difficult negotiations on their behalf or innovating the best insurance solutions to meet their needs. That’s why Risk & Insurance named him a 2023 Power Broker.
